Tiny Baby Grant

Here is baby Grant. Kimberly's beautiful little boy who in these shots was 1 week old. He is a wonderful baby. These were taken on the fly. I plan to practice more baby shots on Grant shortly. So stay tuned for those. Congrats Kimberly and Jordon.

Nashville Snowy Day

Two days ago it snowed! Can you believe it? Snow in Nashville?! My two little boys were so excited to get into that snow. I took that opportunity to play with the parts of my camera I have started learning. I adjusted the aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and the white balance. This was tricky because every couple minutes the clouds would roll in, casting shadow's on my subject, then the sun would come out full force. But it was fun and a very good learning lesson for me on how to be quick at changing what I needed for those few precious minutes. All these shots are SOOC (straight out of camera). I decided to not alter them at all and to hopefully get feedback on how they look, things that could have been better, what I could have changed etc. I will say two stipulations on my behalf. One: my computer screen is like a billion years old (santa?!!!) and the color is terrible. It is dark. So I am sure the color on your screen is different and therefore the pictures look different. And number two: my children have decided that they don't want anything to do with my camera since I get it out and point it at them all the time. I think they're getting used to the idea, but it is a work in progress. Maybe if I bribe them!

These two were taken right after each other. The first one I believe the ISO number was too high and I think I hadn't changed the white balance yet either.

So after adjusting a few things here is the final product. Jackson isn't bright white anymore. I guess I am getting a little better working with the manual setting. I really love playing with it all. And I don't understand how people learned about exposure and all the settings on film prints with film cameras. It just baffles me.

This one of Cole I love. It is too dark and not properly exposed, but he has such a doll face and gave me the best smile.

Beautiful Pregnancy

I love pregnant women. Yesterday I had the opportunity to practice a whole photo shoot with my adorable sister in law Kimberly. I had SO much fun spending time with this beautiful pregnant woman. Kimberly, you and your family were such good sports. Thank you for letting me share in this joyous time in your lives. Only a few more days until little Grant's arrival. Congratulations!

Playing with my camera!

Again, I have been having so much fun with this camera! I can't wait for the weather to warm up enough to actually go somewhere of mention so I can play even more. All I have now is kids who go from the house to the car to the store and back to the house. Boring! We did find ourselves yesterday at cousin Austin's house so I snapped a few shots. Boy are 14 month old boys squirmy! I should know, I've had two of them. But here are a few of those shots. I just love black and white. And amongst all the squirmyness, I think these turned out pretty fair.

Welcome

Welcome to my photography blog. My grandmother provided the way for my favorite Christmas present this year (who likes to wait until Christmas morning?!) I am so excited to find out everything I possibly can about my new camera. She is my new best friend (not to replace a choice few of you) and I think we are excited to go on this journey together. Ahhhh... cheesy. Photography goes back in my family for generations. My grandfather was a photographer in WWII and would take pictures out of airplanes for the Navy. My mother was a hippy who had her own dark room as a young adult. I don't have quite that experience, but 4 years of editing and editing and editing yearbooks will put a thing or two about photography into your brain. I can't wait to explore and learn this new (even though it is not new...) hobby. Yay for doing things you love.
(the blogger is not working right now so this is the only picture you get. Sorry.)
